Nintendo has released a gameplay trailer to accompany today's announcement of Animal Crossing: New Leaf's release date for North America. Animal Crossing: New Leaf is one of the more highly anticipated titles for the 3DS. Having already been available in Japan for several months, gamers here in the states are eager to get their hands on it.

Although we still have a few months to wait, Nintendo's Bill Trinen hinted at some kind of new feature being added to the North American release -- likely something related to online play. This trailer doesn't actually reveal the new features, but does give us a nice look at the gameplay we can expect when Animal Crossing: New Leaf launches in North America.

Review: Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 'Revolution' DLC sets out to recapture the series' DLC formula

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Image

Divergent from the standard Call of Duty map formula -- circular or boxed maps with alleyways to funnel players toward a deadly, exposed middle battlefield -- Revolution’s four maps quickly exert themselves as something innovative for the series. For instance, Grind, set in a sun-blotched skate park, yields deadly corners and multiple entry points. The maps also offer vertical gameplay that’s accessible and valuable to all, regardless of your load-out. It doesn’t hurt that several of the maps offer some fresh eye-candy to longtime fans. Mirage, set in the Gobi Desert, is almost entirely sunk in sand, while Hydro, set in a hydroelectric power plant, features a below-ground, deadly water discharge. The other two multiplayer additions -- the map 'Downhill' and the Peacekeeper SMG -- are welcome accompaniments that loyal fans will certainly enjoy.

COD: Grind

Transitioning to Zombies, it’s apparent that Treyarch wanted to try something different from past outings. Instead of over-the-top, massive experiences as the focus, Revolution’s Zombies map -- Die Rise -- trades in a horizontal gaming landscape for vertical one. As you may expect, Die Rise is set in a towering skyscraper and features numerous levels to explore while you're running away from flesh-eating monsters. While the concept works, there are several hindrances that hurt what could have been one of the finest Zombies maps to date. For example, the edges of the maps look almost identical to points where you can jump down a level, which may lead to a free-falling death if you aren’t careful. It’s also incredibly easy to have a teammate fall below a level, only to be stuck without the means to meet up with your squad. However, if you’re more into the strategy aspect of Zombies mode, Die Rise may be what you’re looking for, as constant communication is key for survival.

COD: Turned

The most unsuccessful addition to the map pack is Zombies’ new mode: Turned. When the match begins, there will be one human player; you and your zombie counterparts will have to pursue and kill that player with vicious swipes. By killing the player, you instantly turn human and become the 'hunted.' The player with the longest time as a human win. Sure, it’s entertaining, but it honestly carries no long-term value. Frankly, it’s nothing you’ll be itching to play for weeks, or even months to come. The Diner map is absolutely crammed, and zombies move at such a frantic pace that it’s difficult to fend off foes as a human for any extended time. Turned is the equivalent of the 'party games' in Black Ops and Black Ops 2 (Sticks and Stones, One in the Chamber) -- the concept sounds cool, but you’ll only “turn” to it every once in a blue moon.

That being said, Revolution is a fresh leap for Treyarch and Call of Duty map packs. It's bound to satisfy fans of the series. There are some excellent hits in map design, bust some crucial misses, such as Turned. You’ll find some worth in Revolution, and if it is any indication of what’s to come for Black Ops 2 DLC, then there's a lot to be excited for.

Animation footage of Obsidian's Aliens RPG surfaces

Once upon a time, way back in 2006, SEGA had plans to publish two games based on the Aliens franchise: an RPG and an FPS. The RPG was to be developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Knights of the Old Republic 2, Fallout: New Vegas); the latter became what today is known as Aliens: Colonial Marines, a colossal disappointment from Gearbox.

As the story goes, in 2009, the Aliens FPS was canceled without explanation. Adding salt to the wound, the game was just about ready to ship -- whatever you consider that to be. I mean, Aliens: Colonial Marines did ship and we saw what we got with that. Fans today are now left wondering 'what if'.

Well, over the weekend, we might have gotten a glimpse at what could have been. Footage of the canceled Aliens RPG has surfaced. First posted on the Guru3D forum, the video appears to be uploaded by character artist Danny Garnett who claims the game was titled Aliens Crucible. The video shows off various animations from the game -- many of which could give Aliens: Colonial Marines a good run for its money.

We don't know exactly how old this footage is, though the video was uploaded one month ago. Even with its age, many of the movements seem more fluid than what we had in Aliens: Colonial Marines. The Aliens RPG was to be released for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. As I mentioned previously, it was announced back in 2006.

Fire's Revenge is another new physics based point and click game from nextplay. This game is hot right now and borderline pyromaniacs are playing this as I type this. The player's goal is to build the largest fire the city has ever witnessed and prove all the other fire persons that you are the most fiery of them all. Yes, you are the flame in this game so act like one.

There are thirty levels in it including the tutorials that will walk you through the controls and mechanics. There are achievements for those who love to achieve something for extra challenge. With the goal that you have to touch as many planks as you can in order to get higher rating, some levels in this game are relatively difficult but not impossible. It's just that you will have a lot of trial and error moments. Here is Fire's Revenge walkthrough demonstrating how to beat the game.

Wii U Image

All right, people, it's Thursday (in a lot of places), so you know the drill! That's right, it's time to take a look at this week's Nintendo downloads. There are quite a few, so let's get crackin', shall we?

First off, we've got the freshly announced Wii Street U. This Google-powered map application is currently free to download on the eShop, so get to it before Nintendo starts charging for the darn thing.

On the Wii Virtual Console front, we've got but a single NeoGeo classic. You can snag World Heroes 2 Jet for 900 Wii Points.

Speaking of old school games Dig Dug is on the 3DS eShop for $3.99. If that's not your style, maybe you'd fancy some Petz Fantasy 3D. Eh? Eh? No? Okay, what about Rabbids Travel in Time? There's also a demo for Naruto Powerful Shippuden, so yeah.

Last we've got DSiWare with Moke Moke, which is an arcade game ... or a platformer ... or a puzzler. Honestly, I really can't tell. In any case, it's priced at 400 DSi Points ($3.99 on the eShop).

Luigi may have dominated the majority of today's Nintendo Direct, but one game looks to have stolen the show. That game is Kersploosh!

If the title doesn't provide enough of a clue, Kersploosh! is all about getting wet. You see, in the game you are a stone that has been thrown down a well. As this stone, it is your goal to successfully navigate through a series of obstacles until you splash down in the water below.

Look out for Kersploosh! on the 3DS eShop on March 7.

Review - Special Forces: Team X is all about guns and glory

Special Forces: Team X Image

As I already mentioned, 'Find Game' allows players to search for matches online. This is where all of the action takes place. Like all multiplayer shooters, matches rely heavily on team-based objectives. As a matter of fact, all game types are team-based. There's your standard Team Deathmatch -- easily the most recognizable game type. Teams are set on a maximum 12 players, and you score points for kills and player-kill bonuses. Interestingly enough, there aren't any specific names given to the two opposing sides, just color coordination.

Hot Zone is a fixed-point-based game where players work to secure a zone. The longer players remain there, the more points you accumulate until they come out victorious. High Value Target (HVT) is like a game of 'Tag, you're it!' The HVT will accrue three points-per-kill for their team, while the remaining players will score two points. The main focus of this game mode is to take out the HVT, netting you those whopping three points and making you the 'hit man.'

shooter

Another recognizable game type is Capture the Flag. Like all other CTF games, each team has a flag placed on their home tile. To score a point, you must reach the enemy's flag and rush it back to your home tile. Control Point is probably one of the most played game types in STX. With three control points on the map -- labeled A, B and C -- you and your team must work together to capture these points.

So how does the game play? Well, the controls are solid at best. Aiming, running and performing melee attacks on enemies are pretty basic for the genre. STX is played in a third-person view. In some ways, I feel the third-person view is exactly what this games needs to play right. You need to be on your toes at all times, and having the freedom of moving the camera around to peek down corridors or around corners is crucial in STX -- I can't stress that enough. It’s possible Zombie Studios is a fan of Gears of War; the animation when your character runs seems all too familiar -- crouch-running with the surroundings closing in with just a bit of shaky-cam. It takes getting used to if you aren’t familiar with that style of sprinting, but you can reload while sprinting. This is a nice feature I wish all shooters would implement.

The shooting also holds up pretty well. Each gun has stats on its capabilities for reloading, damage, spread and recoil. I found it best to fire in short bursts to keep my accuracy up. While running and shooting can help you stay alive, the game wants the player to take cover -- a lot of cover. There are objects all around the map to regenerate health, reload or even blind-fire those enemies who won’t stop shooting. (See what I mean about the Gears feeling?) Like I said, this tactic will be your go-to strategy throughout a match.

The battlegrounds selection is unique. It’s made up of three sections, and you and fellow players vote on all sections to construct up the map. The choices can result in numerous combinations. In these maps are item boxes that contain a random special weapon. I once had the pleasure of wielding a chainsaw, allowing me to run around like Leather Face.

shooter

The game’s graphics are all cel-shaded, maybe even a little on the comic side in terms of style. Some gamers may not be accepting about the graphical choice, and we can see eye-to-eye on this. If you are used to Borderlands' graphical approach, then by all means, two thumbs up. I, however, am not too fond of the cel-shading. I found myself cross-eyed at times because STX can be fast-paced, and the environment may be too blurry. The environment and character details are negligible. The game is bright, and you can spot your enemy from long distances easily. And yes, there is blood involved, you little heathen. It presents more as a large spatter.

The headshots during the mass firefights have taken the core roots from the Gears series, yet again, but are enjoyable when seen. When hit, you’re left with a lifeless body with flesh dangling! One thing I really enjoyed was the melee attacks; it’s a right haymaker, and bare fists are all you need. Gone are wimpy knives to slice the gut; in it's place are just knuckles to your face. If done directly behind an enemy, the kill-animation is more than satisfying.

My initial opinion was shot down by this well-made game, even though I don’t care for the graphical appearance. It’s a solid shooter that stresses teamwork and guns, with your occasional grenade kills. If you are looking for extreme action regarding automobiles, aircrafts, missiles and turrets, you won’t find it here -- just entirely guns ’n’ glory. And I welcome this with open arms. Special Forces: Team X is absolutely worth a try with friends or just for the pure enjoyment factor.

HarmoKnight is a rhythm based platformer that relies on simple button presses, yet challenging gameplay. Each action creates the harmonies of each level. The game will include over 50 level across 8 worlds, with multiple ways to play each level.

The game also comes with a neat bonus level that Pokemon fans will undoubtedly recognize immediately.
